Artificial Sweeteners is an experience. It’d best be described as a Trance/Rock, but this description doesn’t do it justice. The album has a wide range of sound. Each song has different movements while staying comfortably contentious. Not a single song on the album is boring. Still the music has a very relaxing quality, much like 90s trance. The vocals compliment the instrumentals perfectly. I really like this album. If you’re at all into mellow electronic check this out!

In my mind Chinedu (Emerald Odyss and many more pseudonyms) is still leaning slouched against a ledge in Rittenhouse Square rapping between puffs on a blunt, cat calling Sassy, and keeling over crippled with laughter. On this album expect drugs to be personified, your mind to unravel like a roll of toilet paper that wipes piss off the toilet seat and turns into a ten foot tall tab of acid to roll you into spliff of heimlich nostalgia.
Jessica Lea Mayfield – Make My Head Sing
RIYL The XX, The Cave Singers
This album is really cool! I fell in love with the lead singer’s voice from track 1. It’s a very unique melodic voice that is complimented perfectly with the minimalist instrumentals. The lyrics are interesting and deep, all together this is a really solid album. It sounds like The XX with more of a static sound.
Cloud Nothings
RIYL Pavement, Sonic Youth, Japandroids
This loud punk music is fuzzy and distorted, but also bright and almost hopeful. Catchy hooks from both guitars and vocals pair well with the rattling drums.
Chad VanGaalen
RIYL Bill Callahan, Feud
Chad VanGaalen is a weirdo. His music videos and album covers he designs himself are like the Simpsons on acid. His music is mystic and folky.
Porches and Mdou Moctar
RIYL Amadou et Mariam, Tinariwen
New songs from PORCHES and Mdou Moctar, a guy who got popular in Niger through word of mouth and memory card exchanges. Very different styles. Aaron Maine (PORCHES) experiements with autotune on this very quite release. One of the happiest surprises.
