Interview: Matt Diehl

Prolific music writer Matt Diehl ’90 and I talk shop about Zoom mics, bands at Carleton, Public Enemy (and much more) for approx. one hour and thirty-five minutes. Hands-down one of the best conversations of my life. It was really, really neat to get the opportunity to have an in-depth conversation with fellow music nut — and one who’s got loads of wisdom to share.
Diehl is a Los Angeles–based music journalist and the author of four books. In the past, he’s written for Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, the New York Times, and other publications. He also had an instrumental role in the start of the Chicago all-ages punk scene. As he said in the interview: He was “in it.”
Definitely one of the best, most insightful, funniest conversations I’ve ever had.
(Sorry for the YouTube upload; the file was too big for any other platform!)
