Happy 50th Anniversary

The year 1967 was truly a fantastic year for music. From The Beatles to the Rolling Stones, The Doors, and The Velvet Underground, the music world exploded in the year 1967. 50 years later it only makes sense to reflect on and celebrate this iconic year in music. So here’s to 1967 and a few of the albums that made the year so great!

Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles
One of my favorite Beatles albums, this Sgt. Pepper features an iconic cover in addition to classics such as With a Little Help from My Friends, Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite, Lovely Rita, and A Day in the Life, to name a few. This year in honor of its anniversary, the album was re-mastered by by Giles Martin, the son of original producer George Martin, with the help of Paul and Ringo.
The Velvet Underground & Nico by The Velvet Underground
The debut album of The Velvet Underground, this was a collaboration with Andy Warhol while the group participated in his Exploding Plastic inevitable multimedia event tour. Becoming one of the most influential albums of all time as well as the one of the band’s most popular albums, the album features the iconic banana on the front and features the vocals of German singer Nico.
Disraeli Gears by Cream
With a cover designed by Australian artist Martin Sharp, Disraeli Gears was considered this British Invasion’s band American breakthrough. The album was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999 and won a Classic Rock Roll of Honour in 2008. Apart from these awards, the album moves toward more psychedelic sounds and features classics such as Sunshine of Your Love, Strange Brew, and Lawdy Mama.
Surrealistic Pillow by Jefferson Airplane
The second album by rock group Jefferson Airplane, this was the first album with new drummer Spencer Dryden and singer Grace Slick. Their folk and electric sound is clear throughout the album that they recorded in a little more than two weeks. Be sure to check out Somebody to Love, Today, and White Rabbit.
