Arcade Fire’s new single will make you dance, think, and question what has happened to our society. This is their second new single this year with the other being “I Give You Power”. Now I profess that I don’t always love Arcade Fire’s general overly-dramatic stylings or their strange intricacies; but, I fell in love with them the first time I heard “Rebellion (Lies)” from their first album Funeral. In this newest single however, Arcade Fire recreates the simple anthemic song which got me hooked on the band in the first place. Interesting vibrant melodies draw you in and make you listen and explore the lyrics. And once you’ve started looking at the lyrics, you realize what a critique of modern society this song is. Noting how our society demands overstimulation and instant gratifications, the lyrics explore how we need so much from the world. If you’re looking for an alt anthem to start your summer with, look no further.
Additionally, this will be the title track of their new album which is scheduled to be released July 28th so don’t worry there’s more ahead soon.
